Success Built on Teamwork

“Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success” - Henry Ford

Ford employed his philosophy over 100 years ago while developing the first Model T automobile, and the same principle held true for Blue Rock Construction this past year.

As a result of partnering with great companies and teaming with skilled architects, designers, clients and subcontractors, Blue Rock enjoyed continued success in 2009.

“Whether in the workplace, sports or among members of a community, effective teamwork and partnering relationships can produce extraordinary results, and that’s what we had in 2009,” said Stephen J. Kettelberger, president of Blue Rock, based in Burlington, N.J. “The key to our success in 2009 was teaming with great partners.”

As Blue Rock Construction embarks on its 2010 initiatives, the company would like to thank its partners who supported Blue Rock throughout this past year resulting in the successful start-up and completion of numerous projects.

Examples of Blue Rock’s 2009 partnering accomplishments include:

Continued growth with LEED services. Kimberly-Clark Distribution Facility, a 599,500-square-foot, build-to-suit distribution center in Swedesboro, N.J., earned Silver certification. The project was the second LEED Silver certification for Blue Rock Construction, Inc., in 2009, joining the 360,000-square-foot facility completed for DP Partners at the beginning of the year. By constructing LEED-certified buildings, Blue Rock enables their clients to lower their carbon footprint and reduce increasing cost by improving energy efficiency.

Moving forward with historic renovations and adaptive reuse. Most recently, Blue Rock returned to the Naval Business Center in Philadelphia to work on its seventh building for Urban Outfitters. Also, restoration of the historic Finlaw Building in Salem, N.J., removed the 118-year-old structure from the list of the 10 Most Endangered Historic Sites in New Jersey.

Successful pharmaceutical projects. Blue Rock’s experience has provided a successful kick-off of the GlaxoSmithKline facility in York, Pa., as well as the AAA pharmaceutical project in Lumberton, N.J. Both projects employ adaptive-reuse concepts to outdated distribution warehouses converting them into specialized facilities that will meet the needs of the pharmaceutical industry.

Meeting aggressive schedules for specialty-retail projects. Blue Rock’s retail division enjoyed plenty of success and growth with numerous projects for Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Starbucks and Sears.

Supplying design-build expertise. Blue Rock converted an empty 55,000-square-foot warehouse space into a cold storage facility for FoodSource in Bethlehem, Pa.. For Radwell International, Blue Rock produced a 36,400-square-foot addition to its existing 75,000-square-foot warehouse in Lumberton, N.J. Also, there is ongoing design-build services being provided to LKQ Corporation, Pocono Produce and Newly Weds Foods.

Success with office and warehouse retrofit projects. Blue Rock completed fitout projects for Sears, UPS and ArcelorMittal by adopting aggressive, fast-track schedules while meeting diverse requirements from each company.

Expanding into the healthcare market. Blue Rock continued its work in the healthcare sector with its recent project for CAMcare Health Corporation, one of the largest healthcare providers in South Jersey.

“As the construction industry faces the present economic downturn, the importance of partnering relationships has never been greater,” said Kettelberger. “Proven by our successful 2009 year, partnering is a most worthwhile investment.”
