Blue Rock Construction is proud to announce the completion of the Whole Foods Market KMD1 Culinary Kitchen in Upper Marlboro, Md., marking another successful delivery for a valued national partner.

The 86,400-square-foot project transformed an existing warehouse into a modern, large-format culinary kitchen designed to support food preparation, packaging, and distribution.

Construction was completed within a 14-month schedule and represents Blue Rock’s second major kitchen facility for Whole Foods Market, following the successful delivery of the Long Island City, N.Y., location.

Renovation of an existing warehouse included:

  • 10,000 square feet of office space, including a breakroom, lockers, meeting rooms, mothers’ room, reception area, and restrooms.
  • MDF Room to service the data in the building
  • IMPs and refrigeration for over 30 separate rooms, which include a freezer, coolers for food preparation, packaging, and shipping/receiving refrigerated boxes, hot kitchen.
  • Shipping / receiving office and truckers lounge with a restroom.
  • Adding more roof support to place HAVC units and gas coolers on the roof.
  • Installation of two refrigeration racks located in the building.
  • Added a second main electrical service to the building
  • Upsize the main gas service to the building
  • Install an air gas system for the kitchen equipment
  • Exterior site modifications for additional parking
